Cream of the Crop

Outside in the sunshine cleaning the car and hear a kerfuffle above me, two crows harrassing a Buzzard who seemed reluctant to leave the area, another missed shot

This happened to me last night as I was sitting out on the deck but I had my camera right in front of me. A Coopers Hawk went after a Dove and missed. It swooped up and landed on a trellis right in front of me. I knew if I moved it would fly away because it was staring at me. I looked at it, said what they heck and started moving the lens in it's direction...of course it flew away. Encounters like this make me appreciate the images I actually get but it is nice just to watch them if only for a mili-second...lol.

Night before last I was stood with camera in hand looking out at the sea after shooting an osprey that was hanging around when a ray of some sort jumped clear out of the sea two or three times. I just froze mesmerized by the sight and totally forgot about the camera I had in my hand.

Three days ago - the local Barn Owl was flying back to the nest with a vole, closely followed by a Kestrel which was, in turn, being followed by a Jackdaw. Damn, I thought. I'll not be seeing anything like that again for a while, wish I'd had the camera ready.
30 minutes later - the same Barn Owl (plus vole) pursued by the same Kestrel and a Black-Headed Gull. And I still didn't have my camera. |

This kinda of stuff makes me want an SX40 so I can always have a camera with a big zoom and decent IQ with me. |

I miss a crow every now and then but an Owl? that would upset me. Come to think of it, I've missed all the crows.

Ohh yea, I think we all have our moments. One morning getting in my car a Bald Eagle swooped down a canal across from my house, picked a fish out of the water and soared right over my head with it. No kidding, of course I was barely awake at the time much less had a camera. I sat there looking down that canal with my camera in the evenings for a week after that and never saw him do the same thing again.
