Not a composite. Was holding on to the pole and camera to make it more steady.
It's a challenge to put the suction cup on the M5, the hood is all around curved, so had to put in the middle where it is the softest.

Please help...
I've got my boom (15' x 2" x 3mm wall) & my wire system, but I still have too much bounce! Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance, Nick. |

- boom material - excessive weight hanging off of the boom - rough surface First thing is the surface, I would hunt down a super smooth surface to do your shot on. Second, if you're using a Manfrotto Magic-Arm with camera platform, you might want to think about other options, as it's 3.3 lbs plus your camera/lens combo. Try to do your shot really late in the day, just before sundown, therefore you can go slower on the smooth surface and get better results. |

Thanks Andrew...
- boom material I'm using run of the mill 6060 T5 Aluminium - excessive weight hanging off of the boom I've tried to keep weight down by fixing a Manfrotto 482 micro ball head directly to the end of my boom. I use a 60D with 17-55 2.8 (hoping to get a 10-22 real soon!) with Image Stabilisation switched on. Total weigh 1.3kg's - rough surface Do most people walk with the camera supporting it with their hands? I did this on my last outing & found that there was even more camera shake!? Also, do you have a pusher or try to do it on a slope?? Good point re: doing late in the day with slower speed / longer shutter speed. Will definitely try that next time... |

It looks like to me that you're doing everything right, so it's probably the boom producing the bounce. Some people walk supporting the camera, though I never have, but it's definitely something to try though. The very best situation is to park on a hill and just have someone release the brake. If you do this at a crawl with a 5-second shutter speed near dark, the results will speak for themselves. Remember, rig-shots don't care if you're going forwards or backwards, they will appear the same.

I've tried backward rig shots, and for some reason they looked a bit "off" to me. Maybe its my imagination though. Less weight at the end of the boom is a good thing for sure.
