Default Football gear...

Gear for American Football coverage if you are shooting professionally and getting paid...

Two 1D (series) cameras; 400mm f/2.8 IS and 70-200mm f/4L ID lenses with a monopod for the 400mm...

Poorman's football setup for the rest of us...

Two cameras preferably at least one being a 7D with 300mm f/4L IS (or 300mm f/4L non-IS) and 70-200mm (series) with monopod for 300mm lens.

If I were you, I would put a 300mm on your 7D (using a monopod) and hand hold the 70-200mm lens on your 5D.

However, if you don't wish to or cannot get a 300mm lens, put your 70-200mm on the 7D and the 24-105mm on your 5D. Not the absolutely greatest setup in the world but quite workable.

I don't think that I would choose a TC for this type of photography.

Here are a series of YouTube videos on shooting football which are quite good...

Default Re: Football gear advice

You can see all my football stuff on my website and blog.

I use 7D (2)
70-200 f/2.8 (non-IS. IS is not valuable for sports)
300 f/2.8 (also Non-IS) on a monopod. You don't need a monopod for sports either unless you're using a heavy lens
