Default ISO question on the S100

So, what the heck is the deal with setting the ISO on my S100. I can't get the ISO to be set below 160 in any of the modes or go above 1600. What is weird is that I have been able to do this a couple of times. I'm sure I have some setting that is buried in the menus set up wrong, but the manual is less than helpful. I just want the full ISO range to be there. Help please. Thanks

Also, is there no exposure lock for Av mode?

Ah ha! It may be that I was able to shoot at the expanded ISO's when shooting RAW files. I have access to <80 and >1600 in RAW mode but not Jpeg. Is this the case?

So I am having a discussion with myself here but I have question about a few questions with this camera as it is new to me. Maybe people can help. I posted a couple images over in the S100 thread a bit ago that were shot Jpeg. I thought they were great in terms of sharpness. Just real crisp shots. THey were shot at ISO 160. I also shot a few RAW files that day with darn near the same setting except ISO 80. These were processed in LR and I swear they are not as crisp at the Jpegs. I am not new to RAW processing and understand all that goes along with it. My question is this...Is ISO 160 the lowest "native" ISO with the S100 with ISO 80 being an in camera pull down of the ISO resulting in a lesser quality image? I know that with my DSLR's the native ISO's are cleaner that the 1/3 increments. For example ISO 6400 is cleaner than 5000 much of the time. Maybe this could explain why a few of the RAW files out of this camera shot at ISO 80 are not looking as nice as the Jpegs at 160? Thoughts?

Well I can't get my S100 to restrict ISO to your limits, all modes in .jpeg allow 80-6400 ISO adjustment. I just push in the top of the rear dial and get ISO adjustments, AUTO and 80-6400

I just figured it out...I had the DR correction set to 200% and this must limit your ISO range in Jpeg mode. But this still doesn't answer my questions about native ISO's or why my RAW files seemed crappier than my Jpegs, when my RAWs are always tidier than my jpegs (not that I shoot that many) with the DSLR.

With the smaller sensor the S100 may need stronger noise reduction efforts than your DSLRs do. Noise tends to be directly related to sensor size.

A lot of folk have commented that their jpegs are better than the raw output from the S100. I've also found this on the G1X.

I think it's about time that the jpegs are better. After all we're spending a lot of money on these plastic boxes ...

Really? I've heard the opposite a lot, that you'll get a little more detail out of the raw files at all iso's...
