Looking at renting space locally but I need to hear from the 'been there' people first...

For a first official studio space, what sort of room should I be looking for? There's a 3rd floor walk-up available locally for $500/mo (700 sq. ft) with 10.5' ceilings. It's quite sizable when empty, but curious how quickly it would feel tight with gear in it. The location is roughly 22' x 30', with a small office (10' x 10') occupying a corner.

Planning on doing headshots and small scale group photography. The main focus for the space is to have client meetings and exhibit my work in full scale.

So is this large enough, or should I look elsewhere? It's downtown in an art district, next to a parking garage and plenty of clubs and restaurants.

No worries, I got it from the dead. I have been there before. I use studio exchange as it is just down the street from my house. I would love to do personal work at south bay but they are rather expensive.

Agreed 100% Nick,

It is CRAZY expensive....... and that just gets you in the door. You want electricity? Oh that is $$$$, oh you want to borrow some studio lights? thats $$$$
But the studio is just bad ass, it is set up really well. The facility is really nice and organized.

 I for sure could not afford it for personal work. I will have to drive over to studio exchange and check it out.

Studio exchange is not bad, I shoot cars there all the time and it is rather nice.

Its some real nice setups in here! And does any one have a link for some 6 foot wide or so seamless? Everywhere I look, it goes from ~4.5 feet wide to ~10 feet.

You can always get the bigger roll of seamless and cut it down to whatever size you want. I've used a Sawzall before...just cut the end of the rolled up tube as straight as possible

at 1/160 it drained all the ambient light, so no need to black out the windows.
