Default Should I drop a body?

I'm going to Hawaii for 8 days, to follow a family around and take pictures. My camera bag is packed with my EOS 3, 5DC, 40D, and 450D. Is this over kill? In my head I justified that I'd need a film camera, and a rebel sized for compact lightness, and that if my 5DC went down, that I'd need my 40D just in case. Any advice?

Overkill. Film camera is a waste in my opinion. You don't need a rebel sized compact. Just take the 5DC and 40D. Taking four cameras makes you heavy, not light.

When I went to Europe, I took a 1D2 and 1Ds2 and a rebel XS film body.
I never used the film body so it was wasted weight.

packing a rebel for compact lightness kinda defeats the object if it is ADDED weight rather than instead of another body. 5d and 40d would be my choice, and i think more than enough.

Do you have a usage goal for the EOS 3?

Carrying gear just because you own it doesn't make sense...

Way overkill.

You don't need film.

You only need one body in case the 5D fails; bring the 40D and leave the 450D at home because you'll end up not using it.

Unless you truly see yourself using film and actually developing the film yourself for more of an artistic sake over the summer, I honestly think the 5D and 40D will be enough

May I ask you how you got this gig? (Seriously -- I want to know!)

Ditch the digital crap and bring only the EOS3 and 2 rolls per day of E6.

I just got back from Europe and had my 5DmkII, and a 7D as a backup. The 7D never got used. If this is a paying gig then take 2, if not I would consider even taking just one.

I'd go with the 5Dc and the 40D, leave the other two behind. As Moose says, if it's a paying gig, you definitely need one backup...otherwise, pare it down to 1 body.
