Very nice Ian!!!
I really like the golden light on the neck of the eagle.

Which Tc is that? Sigma or Canon?

They're both Sigma.

A bald eagle I shot last year with a lens I hired to test to its capabilities, followed by 100% crop. Bare lens ISO 200 f2.8 1/5000. I shot this wide open to see how sharp it would be and to test DOF. The resulting high shutter spped managed to freze its nictating membranes halfway across its eyes. This was a captive bird at a raptor centre.

I know. I don't own that lens, though. Check out the focal length and aperture in the exif.

Flickr has misreported the lens every time I've uploaded pics taken with the 120-300 and the Sigma 1.4x TC. With the 2x it reports an 'unknown 240-600mm' which is closer to the truth.

If Flickr is correct, I'm using a Canon 400 f/5.6 L at f/4.5 and 420mm.

Gabe, could you clarify what you mean here, esp. the IQ comment as that is what I'll be using the lens on? I'm seeing some pretty substantial shots with the 2x. 120-300 + 2x would be a wildlife combo for me (think bears and deer). 1.4x for BIFS.

Here's one...immature bald eagle in Port Houghton, Alaska...nothing compared to the eagle pics above, though! There's some places you can really get close (like the Canneries and such) but not here, hehe...this was with the Sigma 2x, on D800 .. extremely heavily cropped (this is like a 50% crop or so, if you click through, I believe)

Used this lens, with the 1.4x TC, to shoot at the RIAT airshow yesterday. It handled it well, despite apparently not liking being pointed upwards.

Well, placed my order this morning from Amazon for the lens and from B&H for the TCs. Just couldn't stand it anymore. Should be here in the next day or two. Excited to get it!!
