I am fortunate to shoot a lot of unbelieveable models as part of my glamour photography venture, and have built amazing rapport with many of them.

Unfortunately, I have also had the experience of running some Glamour workshops, and some guys are, as my father would say, "like school on Sunday" (no class) - they make inappropriate (bordering on obscene) requests and do everything they can to be creepy.

It seems to me that this could be part of the same gripe that many of us have in general that every GWC (guy with camera) is now a self-proclaimed professional... the downside is that it's getting tougher and tougher to get street cred if you want to shoot models.

I'm lucky to have developed mine a while ago with my Elan.

Some models overreact to the littlest things too. Heck some models aren't really even models; they're chicks who like to have their picture taken. You can't just take one side of a story.

This might be the most factual and accurate statement I've read since my birth certificate.

I heard that Canadian Landscape photographers have a fear of heights... at least that's what I was told.

I see what you are saying, and I'm not in the photography business so I have nothing to add here other than that I noticed the OP is from Canada himself. Sounds as if he is concerened with his reputation, and that of his country. Nothing wrong with that, painting with such broad strokes (on the other hand) never helps.

I don't think there's an issue with Canadian photographers in general. I'm not concerned about my country's reputation on that level. If anything, Canadians (especially anglophones) are overly prudish.

Has any of you all ever taken a look at - say Model Mayhem, for your area, and then looked at other websites such as Backpage and CraigsList ? Modeling is not the only thing some of these gals ( and guys too ) do to make a buck. Granted, it's not an excuse for poor behavior, but they ain't all saints either. Just sayin'.

I did look at MM in my area just for entertainment value.

The 'models' may, or may not, actually be modeling. Most here seem to be poking around so that they can just go say they're a professional model. The photogs are a motley crew. Only one I know is actually a professional with a studio. All the others range from acting sincere to pure trolls.

MM has a great biz model. People pay to be vain. It was a great idea.

Any young lady who puts up a profile on a public site like that has entered the public square at least half naked, so to speak. She should be very cautious.

All models are professional and always act that way. They show up on time and are always good little models. Especially the ones from Model Mayhem.

there's TONS of people who get into photography solely as an opportunity to take photos of girls wearing sexy outfits / swimwear / lingerie / nothing. Unfortunately, that is all the wrong reasons to get into photography, but there are few to no barriers to entry to becoming a photographer (although it is much trickier to make a profession as a photographer). I have a day job, and one of my coworkers at my day job has been getting into photography more and more recently. He showed me some photos he took of a model that he was proud of, and I gave him some feedback on the poses and lighting. He kinda took offense, asking me to comment about how hot the girl looked. I realized that he was that guy. It's unfortunate, but there's nothing anyone can do about those people except try to warn potential models about the 'creeps' who are out there.

I always encourage a model to bring a friend or companion who would help them feel more comfortable if I do a photoshoot with them for the first time, and try to discourage excessive onlookers during your shoot if you are shooting anything that could be considered sexy / risque / provocative. It just makes the situation uncomfortable, and the images will show.
