Default magic lantern

Not sure if you guys use magic lantern or not but I have it on every card for my T3i and it is fantastic. They just made a new web page and it looks really nice so I wanted to share http://www.magiclantern.fm/

What advantages does it bring to macro shooters?

The focus peaking blinkies look useful and the focus stacking might appeal to some people.

Well if you are using an automatic lens you can program a focus stack but other than that live view gains the biggest benefit. In live view you can use so many different types of metering you feel like you are behind a jet cockpit. Oh also it has a trap focus function which automatically takes a picture once the image is in focus. Just a handful of macro stuff at the moment but there is a forum on the ML site and they encourage suggestions for future releases so if there is anything in terms of scripting that you would want your camera to do by all means let them know. Magic lantern is also really great for film, timelapse, long exposures, HDR work, and motion detection.

yea Im pretty sure thats what I have. Just be sure to follow the intensely detailed instructions that come with magic lantern. I tried a few times to install with no luck and it was because I didn't format my card first. As soon as I formatted my card it worked like magic.

Focus peaking is a godsend if you ever find yourself trying to shoot with manual glass like a Zeiss lens or an older adapted lens.

Oh, if this is for the T3i, the 1.0.2 is the latest Canon firmware, but I believe the latest ML compatible firmware is version 1.0.1

So if you look at the install instructions under "Upgrade your Canon firmware" you should be able to download the T3i 1.0.1 version from one of the two mirrors listed.

Nice, I recommend keeping a spare blank card in case the learning curve makes it difficult to shoot something immediately while out in the field, that way you can quickly swap cards and continue shooting.

I thought of something else, Magic Lantern allows you to shoot in multiples of 160 which for some reason produces less noise on canon cameras, so iso 160 makes less noise than iso 100 which is pretty cool.

I've been trying to install magic lantern to my Canon 60d and cannot install it for some reason. As had happened to many people, after I have copied the zip file to the sd card and then put the card in my camera and then try to update the firmware, the screen goes black and the led light flashes red and that's it. The version I tried to install is the Christmas 2011 version since the current version requires you to pay for it. The firmware on my 60d is 1.1.0.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
