Default Fitting lenses to cameras

Hi,

I have some old lenses that I have collected over the years. From aircraft cameras, News paper print cameras, etc. Many of them have Focus in inches.

I have a 600D camera and have sent for adaptors. Next I want to make tubes to fit the lenses to the adaptors. I will need a way of blacking out the inside of the tubes, and think of matt spray. I am a bit wary as this paint will be directly connected to the innerds of the camera, screen etc.

Does anyone have experience in this type of thing please?

Cheers, Camerart

Good luck getting replies on this one. Might be best with rubberised paint but I accept no blame if damage is done.

I would not use paint, but it may be worth it to machine the tubes from aluminum and then black anodize. No issues with flaking then.

Thanks for both answers, I'll do a bit of experimenting.

Of course, I would not blame anyone for their suggestions.

Cheers, Camerart.

I do a lot of lens modifications.
In adapter tubes possible bigger diameter are good, and groovings like in screw holes.
How black black color really is, is a question of the viewing angle. Many black surfaces look grey when you look at 10° angle to the surface. This is a problem in lenses and cameras.
I use black spray (do not remember when I used it on a adapter ring and such). Very often I use a black paint pen. And somtimes I use a kind of velvet adhesive foil.
Up to now I have no problems with all this.

Here you see the black innards of a Canon Fd 500/4.5L lens - with a part velvet foil (the darker part):

A tinkerer posted images about how bad the quality of a Canon FD 300mm 1:2.8 lens on digital cameras is - but he has not thought about this surface reflections on black colored tubes. With better blackening he could solve this.

I use bellows and sometimes old macro tele converters as focussing unit - here on a Som Berthiot projection lens:

What lenses do you have - sounds very interessting with aircraft cameras and such!
