Default Anyone use the new 40mm "Pancake"?

Has anyone used the new Pancake lens for concerts yet? I am going to be shooting a band that plays at some local bars, etc and was wondering if the 40mm 2.8 would be a good choice with my 5d. I do have the nifty-fifty so would the 40mm be redundant to use?

I would think that the 40mm pancake would not be the best lens for a concert because, by design, the auto focus is more leisurely than what I would want. Quick focusing is essential to my way of thinking.

If you need a good wide angle lens, its best to go for a 30mm, with a 40mm its not much of a difference to the 50mm.

I know of those threads but I was looking for specific information as it relates to concert photography.

Thanks for posting though.

Thanks, that is what I was thinking too. Now to find a 30mm that won't break the bank.

That's the problem unfortunately. How much compared to the Canon 40mm to the Sigma 30mm like narlus said?

I'd rather use a 35/2.0 or 28/1.8 or even a 50/1.4. f/2.8 isn't fast enough for most "local bars" IMO.
