Haven't heard from ya, I thought you might have ditched us for Nikon haha. ^

Agreed, yeah the focus seems off. Try shooting her with the center focus and do not recompose. You might be moving too much when recomposing or it could be from camera shake. Can you tell us what your camera settings are too?

ISO was 200 for some, 100 for others. Lens was between 70 and 100mm. Shot manual mode in RAW. Apertures were bottomed out for the lens. AF setting in Portrait mode.

Thanks for the help...camera was in AutoFocus mode, using center point focus. Also set in Portrait style mode.

You are one fortunate photographer! 1 and 3 are quite nice as far as the pose and overall feel. The colors are off however.
Some of the softness seems due to the small file size. Do you use Unsharp mask (USM) as the last step when saving for web display?
Pose in #4 looks like she is upset with you, #5 looks like she is just waiting on a bus.
How does your 15-80mm go to 100mm? another lens not listed?

Thanks, Chunky...I am not familiar with USM, so I am not using it. I did just get another lens, a Canon 55-250.

In pic 4, we were going for a pouty look. She doesn't really know alot about posing, so I'm doing all the "directing", plus trying to figure out how to take decent pics at the same time...I am very fortunate and she has lots of patience with me.

Check this link: Depending on what software you are using it will help out with web presentation on your photos so they look better, even small file sizes.

Thanks for the link, Chunky...lots to study there, and I can see where my images may be oof in appearance. I've been doing no sharpening in post at all, only some brightness, color adjustments and amateur skin work in DPP and photobucket. Will work on getting some software.

I don't know why you are having such an issue with focus... what are you using to PP with maybe try a little unsharp mask on them... also looks like you may be over doing the skin... just my opinion of course...

I cant see the images because Im at work but I assure you, if you dont shoot in "portrait" mode, youll get much better portraits. It should be called "make my PORTRAITS look like garbage" mode.

That's uncalled for.

Russ, there was a suggestion in one of your other posts to shoot a few portraits of Terri from a tripod. Even though your focus issues don't look motion related I would be interested in seeing what kind of result you get. If you do that be sure to turn off the IS.

Another thought.....when you press the release half way and get a focus confirm are you then releasing and then pressing fully or do you press fully from the half way position?

This may have already been suggested but just to make sure there isn't an issue with the camera, place it on a tripod, aim it at anything that will show a good sharp focus, set it on the 2 second timer so you're not touching the camera when you release the shutter and take a shot. See if it gives you a nice sharp picture.
