Yeah sometimes you get lucky I guess.
Okay so there is a "deep sky stacker" program? free?
And im guessing it only works on shots without a foreground?
thank you greatly for the tips.
I'll post a sample shot describing what I mean.

Lucky for you maybe. Not for the guy driving the UFO.

Nice composition and timing and great result.

You guys sure know what you are talking about so here is a question.
How do I get the milky way to pop and show definition in this image?
stack? adjustments?
it seems like there is a secret technique that no one wants to mention. Anyone willing to part with some knowledge? It would be greatly appreciated

ISO 3200, 25 sec, 18mm 3.5
single exposure, I took this one some days ago. For some reason when I stack the pictures it reduces the noise a lot, but I loose the colors, even later with Photoshop I can't get the colors as I get them in a single exposure.

I love Camera Raw of Photoshop, but I can edit TIFF or JPG in it.

(sorry if I made a grammar mistake, English is not my primary language.)

It seems like everyone is using Deep Sky Stacker. Is there any equivalent for Mac?
It seems like stacking is the only way to get the MW to pop out like that

I don't do any stacking, it's definitely possible to get decent results without stacking. The darkness of the sky is really the most critical aspect of MW shots.

Hi, I don't know if you tried this before - one RAW file and save it to TIFF in 1/3 increments - increasing the exposure. Use three files 0 +1/3 and +2/3 then fuse them together using exposure compensation in an HDR program. Don't tone map. Once done, adjust the tone curve and colour temperature.

You don't necessarily need to stack if you shoot in a dark sky area which has little to no city lights. The Milky Way is very visible in a dark sky for a single exposure, but you have to get out of town. I shot it Fri night in a national forest that was nearly a 3 hour drive from a major city.

Have you read through the subforum to this one?
