Playing a little catch up here...
Allen, great portrait shots as usual. Your work is definitely publication worthy! Your technique is spot-on! Harm, Alexander is such a cutie! Love the shot of him splashing his hands in the water. Are you loving that 5d3?? Kristy, way cool on the blog shot! I know it feels good to see your work on someone else's site (legally). It still makes me smile when I see stuff I've shot on our county website. I usually have to stumble across many of them since they don't always tell me when they use a shot. I go shoot a bunch of images for them, and they use what they want when they need them. Seeing all those lightning shots on the Arizona site is neat too. We've had our share of thunderstorms down there these last few weeks (right Jon??) I've had a chance to practice some lightning photography. Here are a couple. ![]() ![]()

Love the lightning Lisa! I keep wanting to go out and shoot with some of the nature guys around here, but the storms are usually late at night.. and they stay out all night or however long they need to get what they want from it.. lol.. They always come home with pretty amazing stuff... Maybe on a Saturday night I can head out with them... one of these days... lol. We don't get many storms on our side of the valley, gotta head more east/south for the good stuff.
Harm, so happy to see you enjoying the journaling of little Alexander.. they do grow up way to fast.. I'm glad Jon is inspiring you to keep at it. KB.. I love your 1-year old.. soooo adorable. Thanks for the kudos Lisa and Allen.. I totally get your point Allen, but it was just a fun little contest and I chose to submit a couple of shots.... so...? *Shrug*? It did feel good to have mine chosen.. I know they have a certain expectation.... HAPPY TUESDAY! ![]()

Thought you might like to watch this. This was posted in another thread.
Beyond the Rule of Thirds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtcD8...feature=relmfu One thing David Brommer does get wrong is the Adams story of Moonrise. I actually saw a video where Adams talks about making the exposure and he forgot his meter down in the car. He was up on the platform on top of the car and the sun was going down behind the mountains behind him he climbed up and set up his camera but had forgotten the meter down below. The sun was sinking so fast that he had to make a very fast exposure and he remembered how many foot candles the moon was at 3/4s so as not to burn out the detail in the moon he made his exposure accordingly. He went to flip his film holder over to make another exposure but the sun had slipped behind the mountains behind him to the west and the light on the crosses died thus as he said no reason to make another exposure. Without those crosses being lit there was no longer a photograph. The negative was not underexposed. Any more exposure and the moon would have burned out. The zone system only works correctly with proper exposure for the scene. That doesn't mean he didn't do a lot of work in the dark room it just means the image wasn't underexposed for what he was trying accomplish because he got it. The richness in the final print and the detail in the shadows and the moon shows that it was indeed properly exposed. Under exposed film lends little or no shadow detail and the detail in this print is true spectacular. Last edited by airfrogusmc : 27th of July 2012 (Fri) at 11:50. |
