Default 75-300 IS USM with reverse mount 18-55?

Just getting into reverse mounting lens for macro shooting.

I have a 75-300 IS USM lens and was wondering if i reverse fitted the kit lens (18-55) would it work? the 75-300 len has a min focus distance of 1.5M.

Would the bonus of the IS help out?

I was going to buy a reverse adaptor so i can mount the kit lens straight to the body, but may buy a 58mm to 58mm adaptor as well if it may work with both lens together.

Any thoughts please

The 18-55 is going to work as a diopter.
The math to calculate mag gained
Mag gained = BL_FL / ML_FL
In your case, reversing @ 55 mm onto the 70-300
@ 70mm, Mag gained = 70/55 -> >1:1
@300mm, Mag gained = 300/55 -> ~6:1

The lower the FL on the lens in front, the greater the magnification.

The 18-55 a f3.5 to f5.6 lens and you are going to get vignetting in all probability. The 50mm f1.8 would be a better bet IMHO.

Have fun shooting

IS would be the least of your worries at those kind of magnifications

I've tried reversing my 18-55 on my 55-250, but have to say the results were quite poor.
However, the 18-55 revers mounted directly on to the camera is pretty acceptable.

I have found my best reverse mounted lenses are ,my Helios 58mm on the front of my Helios 135mm. Both are of course manual lenses.

OK, might be a nightmare then. will stick to just the kit lens for now and practice with that.

I have plans on geting a 50mm 1.8 when i can find a mk1 version of the lens.

thanks for the reply

This a pic of a ballpoint pen taken with the two Helios lenses mentioned in my previous post. At least it will give you some idea of magnification.
