Default Just move to Springfield, MO

Hi all,

I just moved to Springfield, MO and was wondering where are some good places to get landscape photos around here, old buildings etc.

Mike

Mike -

I was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood 8 years ago and lived off post in a town called Devil's Elbow. It's a 90 mile drive east from where you are, and I'm sure there is plenty of stuff closer. But if you want to see some amazing old buildings like fishing/hunting cabins, bridges, an old abandoned resort from the '30s, and more, you should check it out. This site talks a bit about it: http://www.theroadwanderer.net/66Missouri/elbow.htm

Just take Temporal Rd./Co. Rd. 1729 south off of Hwy Z and bring GPS, you can get lost amongst all the dirt roads, forest/service roads, etc.

Welcome to SWMO. There is stuff all over the place. You now live in the Ozarks and landscapes couldn't get much nicer. Lots of stuff downtown and north Springfield. More rural stuff to the west, north and east of Springfield. Smallest towns to the north and west.

Thanks for giving me a compelling reason to make my first post to this site! First of all, welcome to the area! I've lived here for a majority of my life and if you're looking to shoot in nature then you've picked a great place to live. Mark Twain NF offers several great photo ops, but basically you just need to drive around the countryside and you'll eventually find what you're looking for. Don't be afraid to get lost, there is a lot of beauty in the Ozarks...

The Ozark National Scenic Riverways is a beautiful area full of old grist mills, springs, and waterfalls. There is so much to see in the Ozarks of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. You might try the MIssouri State Parks site for some ideas to start with: http://mostateparks.com/
