These two were taken on a recent vacation to Lake Lure, NC.

Hi Everyone,

Brand new to the forum, here are some photos i've taken with this lens. It's quite versatile!

Tamron 17-50mm VC purchased new 7/7/12 from Amazon.es for $413 (US dollars).
In use with Canon 60D for the first time today (11/7/12)

Full res 5184px scaled to 800px. First test shot. Morning view up the mountain from my door. Dull, dull, dull, but forecast for brighter later.

Unscaled 800px crop from the above 5184px full res image at 100%. Eos 60D + Tamron 17-50mm VC

Day 1 First impression.Lens is soft round the edges at f2.8 across the zoom range, but this rapidly sharpens up as you stop down. In the situations where I'll want to use the lens wide open a bit of softness round the edge will probably be a good thing. For me not a problem. Best image quality is (I think) at about F5.6 to F8.

Focussing is reasonably fast but not as fast (or as quiet!) as a Canon Ultrasonic drive. Again, for me not so slow or noisy enough to be problematic. Zoom ring is quite stiff and especially so at the 17mm end, feel is 'rough' rather than smooth. I'm hoping this will slacken off and smooth out somewhat with use.

Lens feels quite heavy for it's size with plastic bodywork (there must be a lot of glass inside!) but balances nicely on the 60D. I imagine it would feel good on an xD body but a bit front heavy on xxxD or xxxxD bodies. This Tamron provides a cheapish replacement for a deceased Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM as my general purpose walkabout lens.

Just got my Tammy a few weeks ago and haven't had time to shoot with it. I grabbed it out of the bag yesterday after sone storms rolled thru. Sunsets are usually pretty cool after storms in the summer. Shot in RAW straight out of camera. Nice color rendering from this lens.

Only nag I have about this lens is that its soft on the edges wide open and that it doesn't like to focus in dark areas where as my Canon 50 f1.4 can lock focus very fast in the same conditions. Sometimes the Tammy won't even try to hunt or do anything if it can't see anything. Not sure if this is an issue with mine or if it's just a trait of this lens. Overall I'm fairly pleased with it but if the rebate wasn't going on I would of went with the Sigma. I bought this lens primarily for video. I liked the color rendition and bokeh of the Tammy better than the Sigma sample shots I've seen.
