Hello,
I am going on a cruise to Europe in a few months, and I think I have just about everything covered I will need, but I am second guessing myself for interior pictures in old churches, buildings, ect and am thinking of renting a lens for those purposes. I plan to bring the following: 5D & 17-40 F4L for outdoor landscape, walk around 7D 70-300 IS L for walk around and likely used a lot from the ship 40mm Pancake for portraits, compact size, because it is $199 new ![]() Maybe a flash Also, I have two friend's with 5D2's and 16-35's, so I will try to borrow one of those to take instead of the 5Dc and 17-40 for the extra ISO performance and stop of light. But I would like to rent one of the following: 8-15L for fisheye to get cathedral domes, ect, to "regular" UWA for tight spaces 24 II L for maxiumum low light, because I have always heard great things about the lens and never gotten a chance to use it 17 TS-E L. Now I think this is a long shot, but wanted to ask. I have no experience with tilt shift lenses, and on walking tours I don't think I will have time to hand hold tilt shift and focus while with even a small group. But I hear so many great things about the lens Any thoughts? Anything I am missing? Thanks, |

A rectilinear UWA would be the best choice. You will likely want to have more than just a thin sliver of focus, so the 24L isn't ideal, a fisheye is far too specialised and you risk getting too many of the same type of shot using one, and the TS-E, as you have thought about, will take you too long to tilt/shift if you aren't alone with a tripod.
What would be helpful for interior shots is IS. You could try to borrow a 24-105, which, paired with the 17-40 should cover practically all your shots (I've almost never found a use for a telephoto in European cities). Last edited by Sirrith : 31st of July 2012 (Tue) at 09:46. |
