I don't shoot raw normally but am having a play with it purely for my own amusement.

Have done a search on the forums for Rawtherapee and can only find some 3 threads from 2008/2009. Is folks around here using it much? It seems the latest 'needs' about 4gb of RAM and I think I have 2bg but I downloaded it last night and processed a file from my MK4 and then when I hit 'process' the file disappeared! I had set the output to the desktop but it ain't there

I'm not interested in comparing raw converters as I can do that myself but if any of you have some amazing tricks with it or nice easy to understand tutorials you know of which are hiding away somewhere I'd much appreciate having a look.

Have you tried to software which came with your camera, DPP.

The majority of folks here use either

  • Lightroom
  • Aperture
  • DPP

My wisdom is learned from the experience of others.

Using RawTherapee and love it. But if you only have 2 GB, then RawTherapee is not for you.
The picture below are created in RawTherapee:

Yes, thanks I have used/do use DPP but it's now way near as powerful as Rawtherapee I've found.

Did wonder that I might struggle with processing power and might be why my coverted raw didn't turn up when and where it should have!

Rawtherapee runs on my
Pentium
1.73ghz
1.99G Ram
4 years old laptop.

Not sure how it would handle a queue as that was a one image test tho. Took about 20 secs to process and DPP take about 10-12 secs to process same image.

It does get defragment tool run before it shuts down every day tho and has 34% free space on a 149gb HDD.

So if anyone is put off by the warning notice before download it's still worth a try to use if you don't meet the suggested spec. Just don't expect to run another program at the same time

Click om win 32 and read about how to configurate.

DPP takes two three seconds for me, RawTherapee can take 20-40 seconds depending on what kind of filtre I use.

Thanks for this info. Am shooting a stage performance tomorrow night and saturday night so I'll have a play when I get back Sunday or Monday.

RawTherapee 4.0.9.135 for Windows 64-bitexternal link it out now. New really good noice reduction tool.

For the one who likes DPP picture style or Adobe´s colour profile you can use Adobe´s profiles.
