I've been trying to find and photograph Glow Worms for a few weeks lately with little success. I went out again one evening last week with a tripod and some very subtly additional lighting and finally got the shot I've been after with the street lights of the A2 dual carriageway in the background against a dark blue early evening sky. The Glow Worm was obviously placed where I wanted her and I've had to combine a couple of exposures to get the glow just how I wanted it. I wish the blade of grass was running in the same direction as the way the Glow Worm was facing and I wish I'd managed to keep the whole blade in focus but I'm happy with this shot though. A larger version of this shot is on my website here:

Thanks. I was very determined and had some very late nights which is never good when you've got to be up for work at 4:30am. I knew exactly how I wanted it to look in my mind. But setting up a camera and tripod in the middle of a very dark field and trying to get a sharp shot using a fairly slow shutter speed of 1/60 in windy conditions proved very tricky. These bugs are temperamental too and refused to glow for me once disturbed.

Great shot and concept. I'll have to try a similar setup someday.
