That is the sort of thing that happens to me. Back in my 20's I was fishing the Severn on a very hot day and my empty drink can started blowing around so I put some river water in it to weigh it down whilst I fished. Well you probably have guessed already, but later on I picked up a can for a drink but got the empty one and took a big gulp of river water. That night I was throwing up and I fainted and then was sick and dizzy for then three days. I can remember crawling on my hands and knees to the toilet as my head span when I stood up. I don't know what was in the water, but I have never forgotten it and am much more careful now.

This is all I have this week. I almost didn't enter it from embarrassment, but I'd really like to see the competition keep going so I figured something is better than nothing.
Unlike some of you, I am not loseing interest, probably because its all pretty new for me. Althought I got my first DSLR in 2005, I had to hang it up almost before I got started because of my wifes illness. I picked it up again a few months back as a much needed diversion from everyday stress. My biggest problem right now, is not being able to get time to get to the places Id like to shoot, and not being able to photograph the subjects the way I see them in my mind. Im sure that will come with practice. The time thing will probably always be a problem, unless something drastic changes. Anyway, I hope you guys can hang in there, and if not, pop in from time to time. As far as the mirror shot goes, I'd like to try this again some time with a couple big mirrors in an open space with good lighting. I think it could be interesting. I've never tilted a picture before, but I felt it really could only give this shot a little extra help. ![]() EOS 7D EF-S 17-85 @ 76mm 8/5/2012 @ 5:01:33 P.M. f/5.6 ISO 500 SS 1/30 Last edited by madjack : 5th of August 2012 (Sun) at 21:17. |

Jack, I find I go thru phases with my photography (my other hobbies too)
I go at times weeks or months without touching the camera, then suddenly its never out of my hands and I'm wondering why I ever put it down as I really do enjoy using it

I get ya jabtas.. I've been doing that drill with firearms for about 35 years. I'll go many months sometime. But, its good when I go back because I usually buy a couple more.
I'd have to imagine after I get some sort of knack for this there will be times when my attention span will ebb and flow. But right now it all feels new and exciting. |

My guns have only been out a couple of times in the last 6-12 months too, at one point it was 2-3 times a week
Terrible isn't it

Well gentlemen, here's my take on this week....
Jabtas you caught a good reflection with your bridge shot, but it pales in comparison to the superb shot you took last week. Idlefrog, your reflection shots are great. The shot of the phone apps is excellent. It is very sharp and very creative. rawshorty, I don't know what or where you found such a subject, but I would have to imagine it would give a few Vietnam Vets nightmares. The bizarre nature of it alone makes it this weeks winner in my book. Nice capture.. Rawshorty gets my vote this week. |

I like Tim's bridge shot very much and would very pleased to have taken one like that. We have had a lot of bridges recently though.
I like the idea behind MadJack's infinitely reflecting mirrors. I have always wanted to try that. Rawshorty's heads in the reeds is just bizarre and I kept going back to look at it. It is this one that gets my vote. It is such an interesting photo.

Thanks for the votes so far guys..as soon as i read the theme for this week i knew this was one of the shots i wanted to take, this place is only a few minutes from my home (and from here you can see the Carrillon, tower and bridge) , Jack this has nothing to do with Vietnam, here is a short blog on the place http://contemplativetherapy.com.au/2...ng-christanto/
Anyway back to the voting Andrew, your first shot while interesting, didn't get my interest. Your second shot though was well composed, clear and sharp and the colours are awesome..well done Tim, i really like the bridge shot this week,my only nitpic is the noise pollution in the background, maybe less exposure or bring up the blacks could improve it. Jack...While the photo is not great the idea behind the shot i really like, i have to try this soon. This week my vote goes to Jack for the concept of the photo. And i would like to add i am also a very keen fisherman and i could pull out of my archives a photo that would fit every theme so far while fishing

Ok heres my input for this round
Idlefrog - Great creativity in both of these shots, but the colour iPhone is superb, with fantastically punchy colours and perfect DOF and focus point Rawshorty - What an amazing piece of art, and madjacks voicing of the Vietnam Vets is a perfect summing up of the emotions it portrays, it also vaguely reminds me of the images of the Cambodian killing fields, altho they where skulls Madjack - I first viewed this image on my phone and for the life of me I just couldnt figure out what the electric blue items where, upon looking on the laptop I now see that its you and your shades Great concept and interpretation of the theme, and yes the tilting of the image really does add to the overall effect My two contenders for this week are the iPhone reflection and the 'heads' I feel for the pure emotive reaction it causes and the ultra quirkiness of the image, I have to plumb for the heads

Its the best I could do to get my fat head out of the way.
The glasses are actually clear readers. I don't know how I caught that reflection, but I left it in. |
