Do you use a light meter or trust the one inside the camera? We often have cloudy overcast days here.
I don't use a light meter for weddings. After a while, you just get used to using your camera's meter. I'm not saying it's entirely accurate, but after you shoot for a long time, you know when it's off and by how much it's off, and know how much to compensate by. Histograms really help.

For real? How far away was it from the group? Just such a huge difference!

It was probably about 18 ft away from the group. It was blasting at the full 400ws. It does a good job

I use BD for big group shots as well.
