Looking at getting a 7d to use for rodeo and othe sports. Good idea or not. Anything anyone can tell me good or bad need to know soon.

7D will work just fine. If you have a few extra $$'s you could also look for a used 1DIII, and for me the extra $$'s is worth it. If you're interested in a used 7D, I have a like new gripped 7D I need to sell. Used mostly as a remote. PM me if interested.

I think you'd do better with a used 1DMKIII. You can get a very good used one for the same price as a new 7D. Here is one other idea that will improve performance dramatically. Sell your 40D AND your 70-200 f4 and buy the body of your choice and a 70-200 f2.8 (doesn't have to be the IS model). You'll see a world of difference in shooting sports, especially the Friday night football you're talking about in another post.

Don't think I would get much for either one. They are both gettin rough. Just want to keep the 40 as a back up.

I was scared to upgrade my 40D to the 7D but have been very very happy with it. Next upgrade for me will be a 1DX !! Very happy with the 7D I have keepers at 3200 iso with no issues where the 40D just couldn't hang.

I have a 7D + 70-200 2.8, I shoot bmx and skate a lot (dark places) and love it.
