I know it makes the G12 bulkier but is cheaper than repair or replacement. The Canon uses 58mm(?) filters. Lensmate requires 72mm. As you know, BIG price difference. I leave the camera on a strap around my neck. My "extra stuff" is in a bag in the car unless I know I will need something.

Enjoy the G12. For what it is, it does a really good job, IMHO.

Thanks Gil!

I was trolling this forum since before pulling the trigger to buy. I'm happy thus far, the G12 is fitting well for me and seems it will make a great travel camera or for those times I wish to go without major kit in tow.

I've been looking at Canon's FA-DC58B filter adapter... and I also checked out the Lensmate system. I'm holding off on accessories for now... I'm gonna play with the G12 and enjoy the camera. I'll see if I feel the need/want to buy more gadgets. I'm sure that like with my dSLR kit... I'm going to want to keep up with the Joneses. And I'm sure that the folks here will be to blame .

Agreed, the G12 kit (even if it included a flash, lensmate adapter, and lenses) is definitely a lot less gear to tote around vs. my typical 5D kit... but, I'm hoping to really go out with only the G12, and nothing more. We'll see how this line of thinking works out... Thanks for the thoughts!

Guess I'll throw in my .2 cents. I've had my G12 probably over a year now and a small permanent smudge, not really a scratch, appeared about 2 months ago. Shortly after that a speck of dust also appeared directly in the middle of the lens.

None of it has affected the photos, that I can tell, so I'm just living with it. It just bugs me because I know they are there.

Overall, still a great camera.

Its a great point & shoot in better light condition; not so good in low light!

Follow up!
I read somewhere on here about applying vibration to try to loosen the dirt in the lens so yesterday I'm looking at that piece of dirt smack dab in the middle of the lens and decide I'm gonna whack the lens barrel.

Turn camera on, extend the lens and rap the lens barrel against the corner of my desk. Another speck of dirt shows up against the lens! So I tap it against my desk some more and both specks drop to side. Yay!

So, no more dirt inside the lens, just the tiny scratch, not that either even affected the pictures!

I'm waiting for your next post to be about a lens error!

haha! Well, what looks like a very small, very fine thread has now shown up on the inside lens. I'm beginning to think there's some kind of dirt convention going on in there.

Banging didn't move it this time.

If I get the lens error then it's time for another G12 At least the prices are lower now.

My G12 had just come back from service center due to lens problem (they said). First the picture comes with purple vertical line, then it gets worst from there. Luckily it's still on guarantee, so I only paid $8 for service administration. Other than that, I'm a happy owner of G12.

Just picked up a G12 last week as a side piece to take when the kit is too much. Replacing my old G5 which, while it still works perfectly, is just way too slow & will be retired

I exchanged the S100 for the G12 today, because I really missed not having a flippy screen like I do on my 60D. On top of that, I missed my bulky Fuji E510 from back in the day (I have it somewhere...) & the extra controls on the body are great... plus a HOTSHOE.. it doesn't get much better.

The exchange went smoothly (Best Buy), even though the S100 had a few tiny scratches on the paint. However, I had to do two exchanges in the end. The first G12 had dead and/or hot pixels on the sensor, which was obviously unacceptable. One was right in the middle of the sensor, & another to the upper mid right, & 1 more I can't remember where.

Anyway, the second one I had to get from a diff location because they were out of stock is absolutely perfect. I can already tell the pictures are waaaaaaaay better than what the S100 was giving me. I don't get it LOL. & the macro performace is amazing of course.

I have both the lensmate tubes (3), and the Canon filter adapter for my G11. I have decided I don't really like to carry them with me very much, unless I plan to do a certain type of photo. 99% of the time I only bring my G11 or my G9. I also have the Canon 2.0x tele and 0.75x wide converter lenses, purchased for use with my G9, and now also for my G11. I hardly bring them either. Try living without the add-ons for a while. If you want to use a CPL, just hold it in front of the lens.

I also have the 430EX II flash, and I find this is the most useful accessory, but only bring it with me when planning to use it. You might want to look at the smaller 270EX or new 270EX II. The head can bounce, but not swivel.
