The 100 macro is very sharp, but you can get good results with a zoom. Hardest thing is having enough light to keep your shutter speed up while working out at 250 or 300mm

you dont have to get a "macro" close up on the rings. i just put their hands over the bouquet and shoot that. crop it tighter and u set. or do it old school style and get a magnifying lens and hold in front of your camera!

I've never heard of holding the lens unmounted and using that for a macro; very interesting. Wouldn't that cause a lot of blur? I get a lot of motion blur just handholding my 24-70 mounted to my 5D2; I can't imagine holding the lens and the camera in separate hands and still trying to get a clear shot.
