Q1: is that the bride and groom ?!
Q2: if so, you do have a, err, less paparazzo'd shot, I hope !

A lot of weddings I go to now have a few Uncle Bob types who are enthusiastic photographers with a decent DSLR. Most of the time they are keen but the results aren't brilliant.
I think by trying to 'ban' sharing before the official pics, you'd lose more customers than you'd get and akin to trying to stop the Titanic sinking with a bucket. You can't enforce it, those who share are not your customers. You'd cause no end of ill feeling by making an issue out of it. So why bother? The best way is to embrace it, make sure your photos are miles ahead of Uncle Bob's so that when yours get posted everyone is like "WOW!" |

What if a couple of "Uncle Bob's" photo's are better? Just because they aren't the paid pro doesn't necessarily equate to crap.
Besides am I missing something? As a paid photographer they check out the quality of your work, hired to do a job and as long as it's at that standard it shouldn't matter. They're guests, they are going to miss "moments" you aren't (shouldn't).

break into the bride's house instead... use her facebook account... she can untag herself from any pictures in which she has been tagged... a lot less effort, and you may have already visited the bride's house so you should be somewhat comfortable with the layout... if you don't want to break in, use an excuse to visit her... bring some pics for which you seek her opinion... or say you lost a lens last time you were there, and want to look around for it, specifically in her computer room... |

You can put a clause in the contract for no cameras during the ceremony and no other shooters during the wedding party shots or you just have to learn to deal with it. Even when requested by the bridal party, there will always be some one that feels they are the exception to the rule. If you are good at what you do you photos will come out past theirs anyway.
I also had a bride post photos I took downloaded through her cell phone to fb, for some reason they came out cropped weird. I don't want to be a jerk and tell her to report them. Some things you just have to let go |

As everyone else said, trying to stop FB tagging is like stopping a river with a pebble. I actually kind of like the guest photos-I'll go around and tag myself in them, an Andrew at work sort of gallery. And yes, my photos are typically much, much better than any of those the guests post, even those that had pretty decent gear.

I just think that if there is a blip about it in the wedding program and/or a sign next to the guest sign-in table, it'd be much less of an issue. Im pretty sure most people who see the blip/sign will politely refrain as much as possible from taking pics the whole time. The problem is that people just aren't aware that they're being a nuisance and affecting the professional photos/wedding ambiance--it's not that people are bent on being rude and take pics the whole time because they can.

I find most of these people fine but sometimes you do encounter a pesky one. Recently while taking a family group photo I had a guest with camera give directions on posing. My response was to reel back and offer her my camera which got quite a laugh from people in the vicinity and that sorted her out. iphone photographers standing in the isle blocking me
But overall, cool, assertive body language and a pleasant tone will generally overcome most situations. Rarely do I actually have to nicely ask someone to back off. In fairness to the Op I have felt exactly the same and I feel that he really is venting - be my guest!

I wouldn't worry about it, the last two weddings I did had pictures posted on a social networking sites before we'd even got to the reception.
At the end of the day you've been paid for your services and these will be the photo's the bride and groom will cherish, worst part about it is you will look at a few of the posted photos and they'll be the poses you put them in...

I guess similar views have been shared before. If I'm going to my cousin sisters wedding, I have all rights to capture few moments of happiness and share them with my close ones. Besides the paid photographer is probably not going to share the soft copies with all the relatives, who attend the ceremony.
Assuming I'm a relative of the couple and if I bring a decent gear and I click pictures at par with the paid photographer. Then to the couple, there is no value added by the paid photographer. They would rather ask me to cover the wedding. Apologies for the strong opinion.
