unless you are just using it as a standard trigger... in which case, your light meter can get any ratio variation you want... and you're not limited to the [A+B] + [C] of the Canon System...(if you include [C] in the image as anything other than extra ambient light, it will over expose the image.

Value of AC3 for doing Zone control is ability to control each zone independently. One zoom can be set to manual which offers a 6 stop range in 1/3 stop steps. Another zone can be ETTL (A) which means the speedlite output is being controlled by the camera ETTL metering. And the zone can have 6 stops of FEC applied via the AC3.

This is very much similar to the Gr function offered with the 600EX-RT for three zones without a speedlite on camera. Much more powerful than ratios via a Canon speedlite.

That's a good question. The size of the mini1 is the main advantage over having multiple flex 5's but you have a point. Some say the batteries are hard to find for the mini but batteriesplus them and they have locations all over the Midwest US. I purchased a used E+ Flex from adorama for 179US

Sure, but suppose you were on vacation and the battery died. The backup battery somehow got lost and now you have to run to the hotel gift shop. They'll have AA batteries, but probably not a coin cell battery for the Mini.

I would call that poor planning.

If your vacation picture taking is so important you're dragging ControlTL hardware along, it means you have stands, modifiers etc. How the H--- did you misplace the batteries?

Yeah, I know. I just added that because I knew someone would come along and say that was poor planning not to have a backup battery.

I had the same issue and went with 2 flexes. I know they make rechargeable coin batteries but AAs are so much easier to find. It is added bulk to the camera compared to a mini but not worth switching over to a coin battery.
