Well, I wanted to talk about the rumoured "Top Pro" body Olympus promised DPReview, but not sure if it'll be MFT. Most people who commented on DPR seemed to believe it'll be the successor to the E-5 -- i.e. Four Third, not MFT. However, a few do believe it'll be a MFT body even better than the OM-D E-M5 (one nicknamed it E-M6). I'm very curious to see how Olympus can make the E-M5 even better. Lack of phase-detection AF (and poor servo AF with current CDAF) is about the only thing I can think of.... Also, I wish it is better explained how OIS-equipped Panasonic lenses will behave on the E-M5. I just received my 45-175X last week, which does NOT have a physical Mega OIS on/off control on the lens barrel. I remember someone mentioning elsewhere that turning off IBIS on Olympus bodies allow the lens OIS to "wake up". I also remember reading that for long lenses, lens-based OIS works better than IBIS. However, based on my testing, lens-based OIS seems to be inactivated at all time. Turning off IBIS on the E-M5 does not wake up the lens OIS. I get better results with IBIS turned on, but the results were somewhat less consistent than with the lens-based IS in my Canon system....

has anyone picked up the 75 1.8?
Im tossing up between it or canons 135. I figure the olympus route will save time by having two bodies ready to shoot with as opposed to swapping lenses.

Anybody owns Gariz, looks very nice to me
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GARIZ-leathe...item2a1fc9bf95 Instead of getting a $300 grip, I might just buy this.

Nice case/cover. I personally think the Olympus grip is great. Mine never comes off. Gives my big hands something more to hold on to and helps me keep it balanced and steady.

If it didn't have to come off to replace the battery I'd give it a more serious look. I'm kinda sorta eyeballing some 3rd party grips that have an opening for the battery compartment.

OK so with my newer OMD I'm now getting 450 shots instead of the 300ish from the old one, plus more like 4-4 1/2 hours time instead of the 2 1/2- 3 from the old one! So I'm slightly more happy! The only complaint I have about the newer one is the PL25 chatters on it where it didn't on the old one. But I'd rather have a chatter then a camera that doesn't work right! With the blue nook batteries they last about 3 hours and 250-300 shots, so they're very close to what the old camera and OEM battery was!
I also used the recommendation from someone here and just ordered the non-olympus shutter release. So I can't wait to do my star trails! One of my big complaints still is they really need to get some teles! I got the 40-150 refurb since it was so cheap and I really need something longer then 50. While it works well when it works well, when the AF is off it can be way off! I notice at distance greater then 20-25' mostly. I know it's not a birding lens, but that's what I need it for right now. I can get some ok shots, but some the focus just won't lock in the right spot, even using MF it's just not locking like I want. I don't have the MF assist on as it makes me queasy, maybe that'd make it easier. I really want a 400mm f/5.6 that's about 8ozs! ha, like that'll ever happen! |

In the same spot, and mulling it over. Do I liquidate all my DSLR lenses and equipment and go purely micro 4/3 or not? I find myself leaving the 5D2 at home and taking the OM-D, even at a family wedding this past weekend. However, not sure the OM-D will fill the slot for macro and studio-type work. For one, cannot tether a tablet or laptop (for running control and stacking software) to the OM-D. Just a hobbyist, so maintaining two systems is a serious drain on the budget. Conversely, as they say, "can't take it with you." When I kick off the kids can fight over the equipment. Last, but not least, do I abandon Canon after 50 years?

A macro lens sounds great! So I can use Eye-Fi for programs/apps such as DSLR Controller and Helicon Focus, or the equivalent?

You can use Eye-Fi and Lightroom. I did a quick Google for some more info:
