What was your white balance in this one? It looks too purplish to me although it could be from light reflecting and rebounding over all that purple objects at the stage and their dresses.

Yes, this hawk was dining while I was shooting. I've found 2 other locations around my house where it had taken down prey.

I had it set on Auto for WB and adjusted (tried) in PP. There were different colored light sources shining on the subjects at once so it was difficult to find the right balance. I tried to replicate the WB to what I saw with my naked eyes. I was just surprised how sharp the pictures turned out given 6400 ISO and some cropping. I can't help but to love my nifty 250. Here are some additional pictures from that night. I'm pretty sure the reddish color comes from light source to the left and normal colored light from the right side of the stage.

In my only semi- well informed opinion, the WB is correct. The skin tones mostly look correct, the few places where there are some odd shadings is almost certainly due to reflected light off of the colors on the stage, I don't think skin tones could be correct in most places if the WB was off.

The lens has IS so step it down to about 1/100 or even 1/30. That can gut your Iso down and bring in more light. I use my 250 under low light and it is not that bad at f5.6

I hear ya. I just didn't want to take a chance on blurry pictures given the kids were dancing for the most part. My aperture was set at max as well. Even f4 lens would have been better but you have to shoot with what you have.
