I finally picked up the grip for this camera :D Henry's was having a "sale" (finally putting the grip at the price it should be - from $450 to $299 "on sale") so I jumped on it.

Whatta grip! It feels great, sturdy. Looks good too :) I have a question! When its fully tightened in place (not over-tightened) does the wheel that screws the grip into place have a little bit of play left and right, when its fully locked in? Mine does. Just wondering if thats normal or not :)

Yep, normal.

Awesome. Thanks :)
My only complaint is the second joystick is a little awkwardly placed to be useable when shooting portrait - or maybe I have short thumbs

You know what really impressed me today when I snapped some pics inside a quiet coffee shop? The silent shhhh.... mode. Very impressive. People sitting 3 feet away didn't even bat an eye.

When I had the grip, I too felt a little weird about the position, but that was not the reason why I returned mine. After getting used to the 1DIV, a 5DIII with grip just didn't feel right ergonomically. It had a chunky and fake body feel... I just decided to stick with body only and I actually like it much much more. It's lighter and feels nice and tight (especially when compared to 5DII).

This brings back memories of the 20D grip fiasco I went through, remember people, too much play and the grip would lose contact and power?

It's not that much play. Just half a cm each direction practically :) I made sure not to over tighten it. It really wont let me tighten any further anyway. At least not without hauling on it. It wants to stop at that point with regular pressure. I'm sure I could break it if I forced it...but why would I want to do that

Then you could GIVE the camera to me if it's broken :)

So would people go so far to say this camera has the best removable grip Canon has made to this point?

I don't know what else he could do with the shot as it is...except maybe make his logo smaller. :D
