Group,

I purchased a Canon 6D for Christmas and fiddling around with it today along with reading online, it appears that as of the first of December, Adobe Photoshop or Camera Raw did not offer any support for RAW files. Has this changed?

I use Adobe Photoshop CS5 and am looking for a way to view and process RAW files through Photoshop. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chase

Get the adobe dng converter and you can then manipulate the files in CS5:

For Windows: http://www.adobe.com ...ads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5486external link

I got CS6 as CS5 does not support 6D RAW, whereas the camera raw reader can be updated for CS6.
but like anscochrome said, you'll have to get a dng convt.

Download the latest Adobe Camera Raw Plug-in v7.3 just released. It has support for 6D.

But as the OP only has CS5 that will not do him any good. ACR7.3 only supports CS6. The ONLY option for supporting the 6D in PSCS5 is to use the previously linked .DNG converter. One thing I will say is I strongly suggest keeping the original .CR2 Raw files as well as the .DNG conversions. The support for .DNG in other software is patchy, and files converted to .DNG from other formats will very often only work in other Adobe products. Canon's DPP software has no .DNG support.

Thanks anscochrome, your suggestion works; though you meant to give this link http://www.adobe.com ...ads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5519external link for the Windows version of DNG (your link pointed to 7.2 instead of 7.3 which contains the 6D converter).

Aside from the inconvenience of running the converter, am I losing anything else by not using CS6? CS5 can now open and process the 6D dng files file; can CS6 do anything else specifically with RAW that CS5 can't?

Thanks.

Windows DNG convertor, 7.3 , should do 6D files.

I have the 7.2 version ( as I have CS5) and used it for EOS M raws. I'll download the 7.3 for 6d raws now.

It works really well usually.

Yes CS6 has a huge advantage for processing RAW images over CS5: Process 2012. This has the "new" Highlights/Shadows/whites/blacks sliders, and a whole new processing engine. Although the upgrades in PS itself may be minor, the new version of ACR is streets ahead. Noise control seems to be much improved as well. Moving to CS6 or maybe Lightroom 4, which has the same processing engine is very much worth the upgrade for the RAW processing improvements alone.
