I see than Canon Rumours have been told that a new DSLR and lens will be announced on the 15th January. They believe it will be a 70D, but have no idea about the lens.

there's already a thread on the rumored 70D in the industry section - hope it's better than the 60D

If they add microfocus adjust back in, i'll definitely consider a 70d over 7d.

I must be very lucky. I've had a 60D for over two years. I've shot it with maybe 15 different lenses, mostly Canon, but also Sigma and Tokina. I've never needed MFA. One caveat: my fastest glass is f/1.8. I am sure the need shows up more if you shoot f/1.2 or 1.4.

I thought if the 70D was everything it's suppose to be I'd upgrade my 7D. But no, I'm waiting on the 7D MKII if it's in the pipe line.

While i agree, i would appreciate the option. I would really like a higher burst (8fps would be enough), please keep the articulating LCD, mode-dial lock, and add another C mode.

Better Ai Servo performance would also be nice, as would the 7D's 150k estimated shutter life ( but now i'm dreaming).

More options is always good. I can live without the flippy screen; it hasn't been moved in two years. Don't mind the dial lock. Another, or two more, C modes would be very handy, indeed. I have no complaints about AI-Servo. The 60D is better at AI-Servo than my T1i was. Take this one with a grain of salt, though. The AI-Servo on my 5D does well enough for me. Ditto my Elan 7NE, although it sees little use these days.

If you have a 7D I am not sure why you would consider a 70D. The ONLY way it would be worthwhile is if they went back towards the 40/50D. The 60D was a minorly beefed up rebel. The button feel is cheap. Camra feel is cheap. The rear joystick/button/whatever is terrible.

IQ is great however the controls for a pro-sumer camera are rebel setup. Why would you want to have a camera in a line up that has one button/style layout. Then they totally change it? I had 7Ds and a 60D. I just couldn't use the 60D and quickly go to a 7D. I need to be able to shoot quick off a 2nd or 3rd camera.

End result photos are just as good but the controls/built is terrible. If the 70D doesn't go back to 40D/50D then it's a bust, again.

Further proof you can't please everyone.

Minorly beefed up rebel? Whatever helps the real pros sleep better, I guess.
It handles well enough to shoot photojournalism, HS sports and MLB, IMO, so it handles for speed well enough.

To the price point, I'm not sure what you or its critics were expecting. The IQ, like you said, is really good. The rear interface is simple and clean. Those who wanted more pro features found their way to the 7D.

I'll take the increased battery life, better IQ, better high-ISO ability, high-quality HD video, and better LCD over the rest of the XXD line any day.

I've gotten it soaked, twice, and it still keeps shooting.

Would I like it to be faster? Sure, why not? But I don't shoot a game and say, "Man, I wish my camera shot one more FPS faster like the 50D!"

I respect the rest of the XXD line as being really good cameras, but I would never trade. Nor would I give up the better controls on my camera for a rebel or even a 5D, the 60D just handles too well and has a great grip.

But by l means, hate on.

I'm looking forward to the 60D's successor he same as many people here, but it sure isn't because my camera gets lackluster results.

Re-Read what I said. I said if you HAVE a 7D I don't know why you would consider it. If you only shoot one camera or are used to Rebel controls you will not have a problem. If you shoot multiple cameras or have shot most of Canon's line-up for 20 years. The controls are backwards, awkward and not places where they are on every other line from Canon. It's the controls and feel. I even said the camera has GREAT IQ but you choose to ignore that.

I need multiple cameras. I need to swap quickly to get shots. So why shoot controls that are totally different? Look at the 6D... another dumbed down camera aimed at those coming from the Rebel. Oddly enough the controls are rebel and 60D layout.

That's not a 60D.

I've owned 2 pro bodies, 3 rebel bodies, two 5d bodies, and the 30d-60d.. The 60d has the best button layout for shooting video. I say this from personal preference, obviously the button layout is severely lacking for a photo camera, but as a video camera, I can have the screen in any position, and access all the buttons with my right hand while my left hand never has to leave the lens. This is really important to me, for what I shoot, the 60D is the perfect camera.

The 60D is not anywhere close to the perfect camera for all situations, but it is my choice camera over all other canon bodies because of the button layout and articulating screen.

Feel is all about preference.

Well with the release of the Rebel t4i before the next generation XXD, we can take a wild guess that the 70D might be developed based on the t4i's essentials and the 60D body style. It's probably an super upgraded T4i... that with back wheel, more advanced touch screen, digic V processor, the same sensor, better seal and similar video capacity. Hopefully it also gain an updated AF system (more AF points and AF options maybe) and a better VF.
