For those that dont want to sign up to another forum here is the photo. I know this guy he is from Michigan and is the man behind the original "fish launcher" and brought an air tank some of you might remember those items. Great guy and feel really bad for him. Tripod camera and lens went over was brought back up with a grappling hook. I was sent this from a eye witness who was there when it happened

I was there the day after that happened. Can't the pic as I'm not a member of that board(clicking the link to pics gives me a members only message). That was pretty much the talk of the dam that day. Felt sorry for the guy, and hope he had insurance.

Sad to see a rig like that go under water, he seems to be in good spirits as he watches the water drain from the body. I would be shedding tears as well.

Looks like a gripped D800 which is around $3K.

The lens is hiding behind a lenscoat but based on the lens foot that is either a $9K 400/2.8 or a $10K 600/4. This is assuming it's the newer version.

Lack of action at L/D 14 ......I am starting to think that is a very good probability . And also the fact that the river has plenty of Shad in it so the Eagles do not have to rely on people throwing fish in and they also don't have to contend with the masses of lenses and people.In years past the river wasn't yielding the fish that it is today, so who knows. I know I played my part in slinging fish and getting my shots. Glad with what I came away when I got them. So lets see what the future brings , Like Ted Ellis said you cant put the toothpaste back in the tube once it is out.

Turned out to be a good day after all. Action really got going after 1:00pm. My car even got bomb by an eagle but not the typical way. :lol:

I'll post a pic once I'm done going through them and you'll see what I mean.

The number of Eagles at any dam seems lower when the rivers are not frozen over. The Eagles have the whole river to fish on and do not have to rely on open water at the dam. Last week, there were seven eagles in one tree at Starved Rock S.P. on the Illinois River and the river is wide open.

Aren't Bald Eagle populations going up?
