Any advice on telling which focusing screen is which? They are in the canon cases but not labeled

I have 2-5D classics and you can pick them up for under $600us used right now. It's the cheapest and best full frame option out there imo. I've even heard of some folks hoarding them...

It's all in what you use to view them. View them in the Canon Raw software Digital Photo Professional (DPP) (or another dedicated Raw processing app) so that the Raw will be processed properly. Otherwise you will be seeing the jpeg embedded in the Raw file, which can throw things off.

By the way, I'd suggest you rethink your Raw+jpeg workflow. With Raw and a good Raw processor you really don't need jpeg copies. It's typical to work with the Raw files and then only convert them if either you need to do some "image editing" in an app like Photoshop or you are ready to output a jpeg for either print or "sharing".

DPP is actually quite a good "starter kit" for working with Raw files without jpegs because DPP automatically opens and renders an image that has the in-camera settings applied and so is "jpeg-like" at its first "look". From there, you can use your creative vision to enhnace the image using the Raw tools not available with the jpegs in DPP.

I'm not familiar with the 28-70 -- are you sure you don't mean the 24-70 f/2.8L?
