FWIW, I agree with Maddy333. There really is no interesting subject, and a crooked horizon is a photo killer in most instances. You have nice leading lines, but as maddy said, they lead to nothing. The birds could have been an interesting subject, but they are too far away to matter. The photo is also somewhat cluttered.

If you're not looking for a single person's opinion of a photo, don't post it in this thread, start a new thread for that photo. You have to remember, you're only getting one opinion on your photo when you post it here, and if the person rating your photo loves macro, and you post a great portrait, it isn't going to get the rating you're hoping for. Whereas if you posted a mediocre macro, you might get that 9-10 from that critiquer (sic).

I don't look at this thread as a learning tool for that reason. It's a fun thread, and IMO, nothing more. AA or HCB would probably get a low score here, as you have to remember that most who post here have little experience, and are in the learning stages.

Don't take this thread seriously is what I'm saying. Occasionally there is a good critiquing, but usually (IMHO), the critique is lacking as much as the photo. Go back and read all the critiques, and you'll see that this thread not really what it was meant to be.

We now return to our regularly scheduled programming....

Good points all, especially the "consider the source" hint.

I wasn't trying to rebuke a rating; only pointing out that there is every variety of yardstick here. I do prefer the harsh ones; when they're right.

I do seriously want to know what's good/bad; and if someone hates something so much to hand out a 3 or 4 then that's worth knowing.

Click click click ... back to our programming again.

7.5/10 to me. I really like the focus and the color and the mood. The flyaway's on the hair kind of bother me though. I think you captured a perfect moment. I remember feeling the same way she does being sang to.

Great Shot!

Here's my first attempt from the Zoo today. This was shot through dirty acrylic viewing panes, and cropped in quite a bit hence the softness...

7/10 - Great capture of the flower. Would like to see a darker back ground to make the flower stand out.

The composition is great, the cloud is a nice touch. Would have been nice if it was drifting towards Vega and you could wait a few minutes to have more of it in the frame. The other stars are complimentary in position to it as well. I just feel like the contrast could be greater and the sky darker with the stars really shining. Also lots of noise. 7/10

^Great composition and very nice sharp focus, I also love the color, but I find the banding in the background very distracting. Was this pushed up in post or is it the hosting website compressing it? 6/10 as is, without the banding I'd say at least 8/10.

Another frog shot with the M, different frog this time :)

I like the composition of this picture, and the processing. My only complaint is the foreground is a bit messy and distracting. 8.5/10

Very cute! Something is wrong with the trees? Composition is pleasing. 6/10

The goal is not to change your subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer.

cool perspective. I like the lines and proportions. It's a little different from your everyday picture. I think some elements are a little distracting like the reflections and stuff that's inside the glass. Great depth of field--I like that both the subject cross and the photographer are in focus. You must have used something like f/5.6---- 8/10.

Actually, nevermind--your reflected image on the glass is on the same plane as the cross...so maybe a larger aperture. :D

Adorable cat, shot wide open, all natural light on a overcast day nice and sharp. Cant really say anything bad since your just following your cat around while walking around shooting stuff;) 9/10
