Just did my first gym session today, didn't have proper gym shoes so went in walking shoes and my calves were paying the price. Spent an hour on the treadmill and burned 250 calories over 2.8 miles at 3.0 and avg 2.5 incline on the treadmill. Not the hardest workout, but enough to break a sweat apparently. Kind of happy with it considering my endurance and lower body strength and a perceived weak core. BMI scale says I'm of a healthy weight, my body is telling me that nowhere near enough of that is muscle.

So a long-winded hello fellas!

HELLO! Welcome to the world of Transformers!

Oh, yeah, I remember my clothes transition when I started walking my bridge:

Day 1: baseball cap, T-shirt, cargo pants, Converse All-Stars.
Day 3: baseball cap, T-shirt, cargo pants, new sneakers.
Day 5: baseball cap, T-shirt, training shorts and sneakers.
Two months later the baseball cap disappeared and I started wrapping my head in a do-rag (damn sight easier to clean).

Thanks! I got around to buying some proper gym shoes and hopefully I'll be able to run a mile by week 2.

I need to learn to eat right, trying to kick the processed junk full of empty calories and hfcs in favor of clean foods which will be the toughest part.

I find it easiest to stick to decent eating on work days. I take one salad and three 32oz bottles of water with me. When I get home I go straight to bed, not even stopping in the kitchen (I work until 0100am). Get up every AM, have coffee, 32 oz of water, and daily vitamins, then exercise. No eating until after.

If I vary my schedule. I eat.

so far the counting calories and 1000 calorie deficit each day has been working. Sometimes I eat back my exercise calories, sometimes I dont. Now to kick it into higher gear, I am going to add on some lifting.

How many calories you guys doing per day? I notice if I try to eat less than 1700, it usually backfires and my weight doesn't change.

Simply do not eat less than 1700 - the body needs it to function. Even if we have lots of stored energy around our waists, we don't have all the ingredients there to fulfill what the body needs. It is way better to just burn the candle a bit harder by taking an extra walk.

Next thing is that the body doesn't just burn energy when you are training. After the training, it continues to burn extra energy to rebuild.

i based it on my mbr. My BMR was 3300, so I put my net calories at 2300. So I can eat 3000 if I work off 700. Generally though I have been eating about 2100 and working off anywhere from 500-1200 depending on the day. I am not hungry. But now that I am going to add lifting into my routine, I will most likely eat about 2500 with still a 500-1200 burn.

I dont think that 1700 sounds right, but if it works for you, then go for it.

Joined this thread last year with all good intentions but one thing led to another and the diet lapsed.

I now find I am struggling in the Cyprus heat even though I have lived here for 7 years and am convinced it's all the extra weight I am carrying. So I weighed on Monday at 266lbs, started diet today, will sort out my bike and kit after work and start training again tomorrow.

Quickly scanned the thread - well done to everyone that has lost weight

We are at about the same weight. I'm stalled at the moment. Good luck!

I seem to top out at this weight 266lbs (19 stone) no matter how much I eat and drink I never seem to go above this, but this is far to heavy for me.

I know the weight is due to junk food and alchohol so that's why I have started a new diet which does not allow any of it. Having been in the military for 22 years I never had a problem eating and drinking rubbish but we were always encouraged to keep fit so it all got burnt off.

Because of this I have never been a fan of diets and always had the attitude that if you burnt off more calories than you put in then you are sure to lose weight. I still believe this is the case but now sitting behind a desk all day I need a bit of structure to what I eat and drink.

Hopefully you won't be stalled for too long and start losing again soon.
