Pretty simple idea, inspired by THIS thread.

I post a picture, and everyone downloads it, plays around with it and then posts their version of it. After a week or so, I come in, choose the one I like best, and that person posts their own photo. We spend the next week playing with theirs, and then they choose a winner. Repeat ad nauseum.

A few rules...

When you post a photo, leave it as it was straight out of camera.

And don't go overboard with the editing. So no adding in sharks jumping out of the water for extra coolness. The idea is to finish the photo, not to edit it so much that it's unrecognizable.

To start with, here's the first image! Click on it for the full sized version.

Straight out of camera is already overboard with editing.

Huh?

Why do people shoot Raw? Because it is unprocessed, which means it can be processed in a million different ways.
Why do Raw shooters not use jpg? Because jpgs are intensely processed by the camera, then reduced from 14 bits to 8 bits and compressed, which puts a severe damper on the way they can undergo a second round of editing. So if your game is to be based on jpgs (and low resolution jpgs, at that) it might better be called the Post Post-processing Tweaking Game.

I like the idea of the thread but I have to agree with tzalman on this. My primary tool for editing is LR5 with CS5 being my last resort. LR5 is a raw converter plus and severely limited with jpgs IMO.

How about providing a raw file via dropbox or any of the other free file transfer functions available?

I agree with the suggestion above re: RAW access (and Dropbox is a very good file share site BTW - you can download someones RAW file even if you don't have a DROPBOX account). You can reduce the size a little by LR exporting (saving option in Photoshop) in DNG format.
I would hope that the person uploading could post/display the JPG image with or without their own post processing with the RAW file download link as an option.

I'll have a play if there's a RAW file involved, would be good to practice on slightly different images.

I like this, but agree - RAW!

YouSendIt/Hightail both have download services that are free, I think

This game has been going on for quite some time in the competition forum. Thought it looked fun myself. Oh,and RAW files are provided.

I do, however, love your idea of "passing the torch" between people. The link posted above to the other thread is the way it needs to go - a dropbox or hosted raw file that we can access. Editing jpg's ain't too interesting to me.

Sorry, guys, I was just playing around and shooting jpgs that day, no raw file available. But if you want to post a raw file for the next shot, that's fine.
