Why not use DPP & output TIFF to Gimp.

I've tried doing that, and can't get Gimp's Gaussian blur to work with the TIFF. Works fine with JPEG. Anybody have any ideas why?

Does anyone know how to make Gimp brushes less laggy ? Whenever I try it on my computer the brushes seem to have sort of mild inertia to them. I am on W7x64 dual core 2.7 MHz Pentium, it should be plenty fast for that.

Re-Gimp

I like to take photos of Airline traffic on airways mainly about 20-30,000ft with my SX20IS 20x zoom and although just a small sensor bridge, it manages some quite good results in good light.

I would like to know If there are any general touch-up tricks In gimp to smooth out some of the image noise (lots of blue sky and small plane):( I genaraly use the blur - selective about 2-3 percent then the N/L filter with the recommended amount of edge shapen, then I sharpen the Image between 25-50 percent.
I have even tried zooming In about 400 percent and doing some touch-up with the colour picker then airbrushing the edges of the plane, before either - Filling In with Bucket or manualy by Airbrush to smoothen out the noise.
I am not confident enough yet to try the more advanced stuff so any settings of the the above that would help me ie - N/L settings for my type of subject would be very mutch appreciated.

Cheers In advance......

Ditto. I downloaded it but the tutorial is completely different. I am not familiar with the old versions so I cant seem to find some of the stuff in the new version.

This is not really "touch-up tricks" as requested, but you mentioned noise reduction, pagman, and I use Noiseware community edition. it works pretty well except it's pretty strong; I read a recommendation to only use the "weaker noise" option and that's what I always use. Oh, and it's free.
