Two years ago I dropped my 40D and killed it and thank God for insurance I replaced it with a 60D. I keep coming back to this post to see the wonderful pictures that can be taken with the 40D. I enjoy everyone's picture and especially the surfing pictures. Patrick shows the great pics the 40D can take with excellent glass.

^^ Coming from a fella photographer, I truly appreciate the compliment.^^

I picked up a 70-200 f2.8 IS for $800 at my local camera shop. Not sure why it was so cheap, but I haven't got a chance to use it much yet. Hopefully when I get out with it nothing is majorly wrong. I'm excited to test this lens out on my 40d as well as my 5d. Interested to see if I can tell any difference between the two bodies when shooting portraits. I certainly hope so, so I can sell the full frame and focus soley on setting my lens lineup based on crop.

An old football photo back from 2008 when my 40D wasn't my backup camera.

Caption to this photo: Why offensive linemen aren't punt returners! :-)

Note: He was trying to catch punts during pregame warmups.

Hoping this is an OK place to post this.. My 40d (maybe 35k clicks) just ran into an issue. As it sits, the mirror will not flip down and the sensor "screen" will not rise. However, if I click it over the live-view, the camera works just fine..

Does this make any sense? It may have happen when I was cleaning the sensor. It's possible I forgot to turn the camera OFF when I was finished with the job, but I'm not certain.

Thanks in advance.

The 40D was the first digital that I bought and I still have it. Some years later I bought a 5D. I shoot with whichever one I happen to pick up. Both take pics as good as my talent allows.

I bought a 5DIII about 18 months ago, and haven't used my 40D a whole lot since. But the other day I wanted to take some macro shots, and was using my 5D for something else, so I grabbed the 40D. Still does a nice job :) I'll have to bust it out more often.
