Nice shot of the lights, and the waiting to be completed New Year's resolutions. :-)

Beautiful image!

Thank you both, was a bit of fun if not much of a challenge for the AF ! One item might be more photography experiments.

Vacation is over, flying home tomorrow. Checked the temps back home :( Well it was nice walking around in t-****/shorts for a week.
I'll say this. If you are a birder go to Florida. Me, well I'm not a birder, just a photographer wanna-be, but it's sure nice getting
out of the snow/ice/cold for a week. So on this trip I carried a 5Diii + 300 2.8 and the 7Dii + 400 DO ii....now the trip is over and
I've poured over 3500 pics I have to wonder why I'd ever even dream of the 400 2.8. I can carry the 400 DO ii (even after a knee clean
out three weeks ago) on the 7Dii and not feel like I was raped at the end of the day. The 5Diii ended up being a spare body just in case.
The 7Dii did fine, even met a 30 year pro at Merritt Island with a 7Dii hooked to his 600mm Canon. The 400DOii never failed, yep, had to bump
up ISO a couple of times but that turned out not to be a problem at all---considering I could wield it, swing it, direct it and as mentioned prior actually
carry it all day, well the bottom line is I'm quite satisfied. A few pics from this last day of shooting-

Great shots. Thanks for sharing. Florida is indeed a birders' paradise. When you leave, others will arrive to take your place. I will be one of those in a couple of weeks. It will be fine to be able to shed the winter coat and not have to tread so carefully on the ice and snow to avoid a nasty fall. And it will be great to put the new gear to full use.

Any recommendations for birding or wildlife spots around Titusville besides Merritt Island?

Archi- go here:
Viera Wetlands (Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands)
Can't loose there or Merritt.
For me Cape Canaveral Nat.Seashore is hit or miss.
We're headed to Reelfoot Lake next month for eagles.....can't miss there either. Nicer on the Mississippi up on the locks but Reelfoot is closer for us.
Good luck.
Oh, just remembered something lens-wise from today at Merritt....saw at least 6 100-400 1st gen in the 'feeding frenzy' of photographers at the Spoonbill
pond. Got me thinking about the 100-400ii. I still want a 500 F4 but seriously doubt I could handle it all day long like the 400 DOii.
We did see a manatee today too at Merritt and a bobcat at Corkscrew but neither stood around long enough for a photo grab :(
My favorite place visited on the whole trip was Kissimee (sp?) Prarie, my best Caracara work was there, NO crowds and very remote and peaceful.

Doc - you've hit gold with your camera/lens combo! I've never seen your shots look better! Hope your knee starts to behave itself for you. :)

Thanks for the info! We will hit Viera for sure. Kissimmee Prairie SP sounds interesting, but quite a distance from Merritt, no?

Medicineman, I plan to travel to Florida, hopefully this spring, for some bird photography, but unfamiliar with the area. I'm going to do lots of trip planning to make sure I am as efficient as possible, however, if/when you get the opportunity, can you PM me with some of the locations you visited? I'd appreciate it if you can. I know you have to get back home and get settled in and go through all the images, just when you get some time.

Thanks...Al

Looking at all these excellent bird photos reminds me that I really need to get some of my own (or at least, try to!).

Went out to chase a sunset this evening, was a bit of colour in the sky but it didn't light up what the cloud pattern suggested is should have. Oh well, forecast for New Years tomorrow night doesn't look all that encouraging for a sunset so this might be my last one for 2014, we'll see:

I'd not go to the Kissimee Prairie if you're looking for numbers like you'll get at the other ones. I liked it because of the Caracara but there are other places to look for them, as mentioned before Capt.Bob has a bird guiding service if you go that far south and he's totally worth your time/money. The other reason I liked the Prairie was the remoteness and quiet there. This time of year the number of people is overwhelming to me (my nearest neighbor at home is like a mile away)....very crowded, but the interior of Florida is seemingly untouched----places like Corkscrew are incredible (saw a bobcat there, I was too slow to image).

Thanks Paul, means a lot. Wish you lived closer and I'd get the ortho to assign you my physical therapy :)

Bianchi thank you very much. You have an incredible backyard for nature.
I could do a trip down here again just for macro.
And another just for astro (in the Kisimmee Prairie).

Well thanks to all for the comments/kind words.

Darts,if your egrets were on flickr I'd instantly fave!
