Has anybody have experience with these two that can tell me if the Leica is a worthwhile upgrade ?

Currently I have the Voigtlander 1.2 on my A7R, 35mm is my favourite length, and if the Leica is much better, I don't mind saving for it, but if it's not, then no point

Hoping people with experience with both can chime in :)

The FLE is better overall and sharper than the Nokton but it loses in one aspect... it cannot shoot at F/1.2 lol.

35 1.4 FLE is very sharp. I also think the colors on the 35 FLE is the closest to the 50mm APO (the perfect lens).

The voigtlander will give you 1.2 but to be honest I would prefer the 35 FLE. I only own ones lens for my Leica right now and its the 35 FLE. I find it to be an excellent lens.

Carlos,

My hands went faster than my eyes.

There are really a few things to consider. The difference between 1.2 and 1.4 on a 35mm lens in minimal without more background compression that would come from a longer focal length. The colors on the Leica are going to be better hands down. I always felt like voigtlander lenses to be rather flat and less "leica Poppy". I think the voigtlander is a great lens for the money, however the Leica is a step above the rest. Having shot exclusively with this lens over the last 6 months, and having many friends with multiple Leica lenses. I feel confident enough to say that most of the best photos they have taken are with this lens. Color is excellent, Sharpness is great, I would say it is sharper than any other 1.4. The bokeh is different, not are swirly as the voigtlander but pleasing to my eyes. I hope this helps.

Thanks

I see there are two versions of the 35 1.4 FLE, one being newer, this would be to use with a A7R .. is the extra price of the newer one worthwhile too ? or is the older one a better deal \?

Well if you got $4900 to spend then by all means get the 35 FLE, I however do not... so I make do with the lesser. Which is still quite an amazing lens. Not to mention you would save $3600 lol.

If I were to sell my 35 FLE today I could sell it more than what I paid for it when it was new.

A couple from the 35 lux FLE

Unfortunately that may have been true last year, it is not however anymore. You can obtain 35 FLE from dealers now without a waiting list and Leica demand has dropped significantly. Here is a mint used one with box and associated materials for $600 below msrp http://leicastoremiami.com ...x-m-35mm-f-1-4-asph-fle-3external link. Checking second hand sources you can obtain them for around $3400-4400 depending on condition and seller. OP if you want this lens I would buy used from a reliable dealer and save money.

I paid less than what it is going for now and we'll check back in a year or two. Historically Leica glass has only gone one way. Up...

So if you are in the market I say buy now.

Can't speak for the Leica, but this is the Voigtlander at work

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.
