Nice! It's been a while since I've seen that Helios swirly bokeh! Do you use the Ee-S focus screen for manual focusing?

Sweet. I use it too. Gives whole new life to the old manual focus lenses.

Heya,

Not just old ones, but all manual focus lenses. I use modern ones too. Samyang/Rokinon for example, keep making wonderful optics in well made lenses that are fully manual and rival L quality stuff, minus the electronics. Some of them are better quality than L stuff. The 85mm F1.4 and the 24mm F1.4 lenses are phenomenal. I do use some older manual lenses, like the Helios 44-2, Asahi Super Takumar 50 F1.4, Tamron 28 F2.8 a lot. I'm still hunting for an affordable Trioplan. The 100 F2.8 Trioplan is unaffordable for what it is. But the little brother, the 50 F2.9 Trioplan also does orb bokeh and is significantly less. So I'm shopping for one of those.

I use manual focus for all my portrait works, most of my walk around, etc.

Very best,

my 5d classic stopped working. whenever i would put a memory card in it would just cease to work. sent it back to canon and they fixed it. it worked for awhile...and then the same thing would happen. fixed it like 3 times. now its just a paper weight. probably haven't even taken more than 5,000 pictures with it. damn shame.

Interesting! I've never tried Samyang glass but I've heard great things, especially for the price. I have a set of MF lenses that I usually use when looking for something lighter than the L glass. SMC Takumar 55 1.8 and Nikkor Ais 105 2.5 are my current favorites.

Amazing images, Dave! I'm so jealous right now. My husband and I are thinking of retiring in Alaska someday soon. Looks like Eagle River would be a great place. Maybe we'll keep it in mind when we search for a city to settle down in. :-)

Jenn,

You guys couldn't find a more spectacular, and at the same time relaxing, retirement state than Alaska. I have been here 8 years now and everyday I still tell myself that for me it is beautiful perfection. If you ever have any questions don't hesitate to shoot me a PM.
