some pics from yesterday's college softball game

I only stayed for a few innings because shooting from behind the fence makes it really tough for the action shots!

60D and Canon 100-400 (original VI)

Great Pictures!
Not sure what in the world she was swinging at in your last picture as she probably thought the same thing right after she took her swing.

I thought that she fouled it off the bat.

I think she got fooled by an off speed pitch and wound up reaching for it and fouled it off.

Minor points, but in the close up of the batter and the shot of the players clapping, watch your horizons and correct them as needed. You can use the vertical lines of the dugout, which should be plumb (ie straight up and down) as a guide. Your first shot is the strongest of the bunch...decent action and good facial expression. The last shot of a batter fouling off a pitch or badly missing an off-speed pitch, for me, would have been deleted in camera....not very appealing to batter, no facial expression visible and really no action of any consequence. Finally, don't be afraid to crop tighter....shoot tight, crop tighter...eg on the infielder with ball in glove, crop out the area below her feet a bit more to tighten up the look of that photo.

I find that simple things like cropping and straightening horizons make a huge difference with sports photos and can turn basic snapshot looking photos, into great looking sports photos.
