These are small but ripe peppers, about an inch across. They grew on last year's plants that wintered over and are now producing a second crop.

Peppers make good subjects. Do you have peppers to show?

Benitoite, that's HOT! :-)

If you don't mind revealing some technique, may I ask what you use to get a uniform white background? Is the trick in the material or the lighting?

None to show, only to eat. Yours would be good in soup; fried with onions and served with steak; chopped in a salad .............. I like peppers :p

Wow, a luminous pepper! Part jellyfish, is it? They do amazing things with genetic engineering these days.

LOL.

Whist Benitoite shares his input, regarding your question anent backgrounds: it's mostly lighting. You can see in my last photo that the ground is unevenly litten, yet in this one

it's practically even.

The difference is that for the final image in post #7 I used a 20° grid on the flash, whereas in the one here I did not. Had I angled the light more towards the lower right corner of my frame, the background would have been rendered evenly white.

Sure. There's no purity requirement--and that's a good-looking sandwich.

The trick is both: a piece of plain white paper, and manually popping a flash at different locations over the long exposure period. With my exposure settings, I had the flash set at 1/32 power and popped it about five or six times while waving about. I use a small soft box on the flash, too.

It makes me want to have a bite. Very nice ... both the sandwich and the photo.
