stetzam do you know the meaning of the black thing on top of their shoes ? and the meaning of this black "horse tail" attach to their hat ?
It's very intriguing to me
The guards are called 'evzones' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evzones
and their shoes are called 'tsarouchi' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsarouhi
I believe it must be tiring and demanding job. You can't move, and tourists can be very annoying as well. On the other hand it's very prestigious job. Almost every country has its own Tomb of The Unknown Soldier and in my opinion it's a honour to serve is such a place.
Exactly like that. There is a strict selection in the army to serve as a Presidential Guard.
Their uniform is following the traditional clothes worn during the time of Independence - 1821, skirt, hat, shoes. The cloths of the guards posted here are the summertime uniforms from the Balkan Wars - WWI (1912-13 and later).
On Sundays noon there is also a parade where they are wearing the original 1821 white uniforms.
