Minolta/Sony

Not Sony Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D in 2004 I think . Could be wrong here but Sony didn't make an
SLR until they took over Konica Minolta's camera line. It wasn't referred to as IS just anti shake.

Weather resistant is not water resistant, so if you drop Pentax from your kayak, there is no big difference than with any dslr :)
DA of FA star 300mm are very good lenses, although it's still pricey for my budget. Paired with 1.4x TC delivers good results as well. I'm just watching others work and want that setup :)

In general, I think that K5iis, or K3 will give more for the same price range than Canon does.

Yea, Pentax is hard to beat when it comes to bang-for-the-buck bodies.
You can also get a HD 16-85mm and be covered for 90% of the situations you may encounter and be weathersealed :)

I used to be a Pentax owner a long long time ago with a full manual K1000, and a long time ago with my first AF SLR a SFXN, I just loved the different set up of the SFXN compared to its rivals.

Heya,

If buying into a new system, I would get a camera with the most longest term features. Currently that's either one of their K3 or up-coming (or released?) K3-II's, or a step down, the K5-IIs. To me the K5-IIs is where it's at, having everything and the option to have no AA filter all in one. Pair up with the 18-55 and 55-300 WR HD lenses and you have a ready-to-go sharp setup that can get rained on. That's my whole issue with their system that I'm flirting with, I want that weather sealed setup, and no AA filter. I'd be happy with the 18-55 in general. But the 55-300 is where I'd not be happy and I'd want their 300 F4L star lens. Sigh...

Very best,

I have the 300mm f4 but there isn't anything wrong with the 55-300mm.
I pair one up with the 18-135mm when I want ro travel light.

SL1 is lighter (with modern light lenses), and a bit smaller than k50. You missed the clearance in Target when K50 with kit WR lens was just around $300, but there are still good sales online.
I bought it spontaneously out of greed :D , compared with SL1 and Pentax K5IIs, played a bit and then sold because I love my K5IIs :) I've tried to find my size comparison picture for both, but it seems I deleted it. :(

With K50 you can't use grip as well as with SL1, but you get in camera shake reduction, manual lens focus confirmation, focus peaking in LV, front/back lens correction, pentaprism viewfinder. No touch screen like with SL1, but two dial control wheels. I'm not sure you can use build in flash as a master for off camera flash, most likely you can. Oh, K50 also has multiply exposure.
Anyway, do your home work and good luck!

It is definitely a buyer's market out there so the price of switching systems is pricey:oops:
