A neighbour called me over the other day to help ID some birds that were screeching and flying around in his field, from treetop to treetop. He mentioned that when they are active, the songbirds all run for cover. Typical of Merlins. They weren't real close, but they were there.

Good ones, Ian. They can sure raise a racket when they are hunting for their young. A pair was down the road from us for a number of years and almost drove the residents crazy with their screeching.

Thanks Al, yes they were making quite the racket. Fun to watch though, unless you're a songbird.

Excellent photos, ive seen plenty as fly-bys but never came close to photographing one.
