Scavenger hunt

Ok, I'm adding a personal challenge for myself to my scavenging...

I think the second month that I participated in the scavenger hunt I submitted a combination shot whereas I "claimed" all five themes in one image...(the first month I only had an image or two). I had procrastinated, waiting too long, and ended up capturing an image that I could interpret for all the themes....and I dun'it. ;) Well, I've decided that *for me* that combining themes is self-defeating in *my* spirit/purpose of the challenge...which is to get me out taking more pictures and having to *think* about capturing images specifically tailored for an idea.

I originally joined in the scavenger hunt due to being prompted to enter one of the competitions by a user here on POTN (thank you, whoever it was!). It might have been one of you here in the thread, I can't remember...I've slept since then. ;) At the time I was having a bad case of GAS and trying to decide on a new lens. I was basically told by some experienced photogs that I needed to shoot more with the lenses that I already owned and that one of the competitions would be a good way to get me shooting more. Shazamm!!!!...here I am!!! :-P

So, hence forth, my goal is five images per month, one per theme/idea, submitted to this council of very noble and revered pixel scavenger hunters for their perusal. I would also like to ask the Council of Scavengers to feel free to give me CC regarding any of my images.

Finally, should I fail to present the afore mentioned five images I will impose a self-exile from POTN for the whole of thirty seconds.

This challenge to myself is legal, binding, and non-cancelable (unless I change my mind).

Very sincerely yours,
Ed
;-)a

Thanks Ed.

Spot on with getting out and shooting more.

You could make it more of a challenge by trying for five, five-in-one photos. :p

Like your brick photo, almost an optical illusion--inside or outside corner.

Well done on the pan.

I suppose this one might fit brick, shine (railing and forehead) and texture (mortar, trousers, backpack), but I submitting this one because of the shadow.

Good shot, runninmann!!! I like how the lines of the rails and the cement in the wall tend to lead my eyes in the direction that he's looking. The broad shadow of the railing is a nice contrast to the man's grey hair.

Stina, that shot was actually in your part of the country. We went home for a family wedding and spent a few days in the city.

Nice texture Ed. Wish we could have some of that in our area.

I'm sorry, Don, I can't recall your location/area...I'm taking it your on the left side of the country? We are forecast for a week or so of sporadic moisture down here. Erika looks like she's busting up and that depression should add to what is producing our rain. Don't rule Erika out, though, strange things happen to storms in the north part of the gulf. Thanks for the comments on my shots. I hope ya'll get some good rain going *soon*, especially if you are out west...that is incredibly sad *and* scary what is going on out there.

Thanks Stina, as I've mentioned before....I'm ah tryin'!!!!!!! ;)

Phil, you got some good shots, matter of fact your postings helped urge me onward!!! :)

Benitoite, nice frying pan shot...you made the cover photo for this episode of "How It's Made"? I'm *impressed*!!!! :) Great lighting!!!

On the humble shots I took ...

The texture/rain shot was taken from my front porch yesterday...desperate for that last scavenged item! ;) The brick shot was a crop out of a building in town. I wished I had moved in closer, but I could've have gotten the shadow of the lamp at the angle if I had of. The pan, well, I figured I wanted a background with some interest in it...not a whole lot of colorful backgrounds in my small town so I headed for the abandoned bowling alley...I didn't get enough blur, though...gotta practice on that. People would see my khaki colored jeep parked off the road in a deserted parking lot and a guy standing with a long-looking camera lens and they would slow down...don't know if they thought I was a state trooper or what? The shadow shot just caught my attention due to the back lighting coming through the trees and the shadowed ground beneath them. The shine shot...well, I think I discussed it earlier. ;)

I'll rest a day and look forward to the September hunt!!!!! ;-)a
Ed

I like and agree with an awful lot of what you say here. Sometimes the tempation is there for me to look through the photos I've taken over the course of a month and see if anything "fits" one of the themes and is a better photo than one I actually took with the theme in mind. But for me that would defeat the purpose of this thread - or at least my intended purpose of this thread. I try to use photos that I only took because of the the month's topic.

Anyway, I have shots for all the themes and should start posting them soon. But I'm still away from home, which means I'm away from my scanner and one of the photos is a Polaroid. I think I'll just photograph it with a digital camera and post a photo of the photo.

Shine
Taken with a Minolta Instant Pro on Impossible PZ 600 Silver Shade Cool

What I was going for here was the sun shining behind the statue. The sun shining from behind was pretty cool by itself, but I turned on the sprinklers in the little courtyard (I was outside a museum) and I think it added that extra something that really worked. I don't know if it screams "shine", but I kinda love the photo.

Brick

I think I took this with a 5D3 and 28-105mm, but I couldn't swear to it till I get to my home computer.

Subject is a detail of a public art piece in uptown Charlotte.

Pan
Taken with a Polaroid Spectra AF on Pioneer Color Film Gen 2 Beta, using the motion filter - #101 from the Special Effects filter kit.

Not an actual panning shot obviously, but I think the intent of the filter is to sort of imitate that and I think it's a pretty cool effect. And it gave me an excuse to use a filter I hadn't used before, lol. The subject is a mural of cars on the side of a building along the Riverwalk in Detroit.
