Does the 7D has a red assist beam or is the assist beam flash based? I have it enabled in the menu but it will never fire, I was using OCF though

First time out with the 7D2, went to local EAA chapter gathering. Shot Tv mode, auto ISO, 70-300L, single point AF, default AF case and tried to keep shutter slow enough for prop blur. So far so good! No MA yet, have not had time...

Thanks, Lupo-Lobo! Yes, handheld. The event was at a private grass strip airport. I walked about 1/3 of the way down the runway and off to one side, close to where most planes were physically leaving the ground during take off. From that perspective, the backgrounds were less cluttered and I was close to the action. The planes climb reasonably quickly, so if you are too far down the runway, you get shots that are obviously from below.

Later this fall, we are supposed to try some air to air shots and formation flying :)

I had read 1/320 was about the fastest you could shoot. As simple as it sounds I never considered prop speed. No two would be exactly the same. I would have never thought of angle. Thanks for the info.

You're welcome! I have tons of good shots at higher SS and no prop blur....someday I'll leave Photoshop well enough to add the prop blur to those :)

Well I've achieved pretty much everything I've set out to do expect that. I don't get too many opportunities as we don't get the air show anymore.

Not only that but slow SS for race cars as well. I'm not that steady so I rely on the SS speeds. The IS is pretty good on the 100-400 II so I'll work on one of those when I get a chance.

Check back next week. I should have some from the McNeese-LSU football game.

Mike, how do you like the 7D2/100-400L combo? That's what I will have in a few days after my 7D2 shows up. Not ready to pull the trigger on the 100-400L II yet.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Nice. I really like the 3rd one. For the first one, unless you are leaving it loose for printing, I would crop it tighter to get most of the two guys in the background out of the photo.

You've got to have a pretty strong level of discipline to hold off pulling the trigger on a 100-400 MkII after subscribing to this thread.
