Thank you! She made a really nice recovery and she's just about the sweetest cat I've ever known. She sits in my lap for hours at a time, even if I move her she'll come right back :)

Another one of Lenny, just watching the goings on in the living room, and ignoring all the birds in the yard behind him.

Very sad news for Mellow Yellow. After my dad passed away, I adopted his sweet yellow kitty companion. My dad's name for him was Trouble, but I renamed him Mellow Yellow ... we call him Mel. Within the past week or so his breathing became rather labored and sometimes desperately gasping for breath. When I took him to the vet they found his chest cavity completely filled with fluid. Further tests showed that he tested positive for FIV. Apparently he has had the virus since birth. They drained the fluid and that made him feel so much better. They insisted that I should have him put down while there, but Mel and I weren't quite ready to do that. Today he was feeling so chipper that I am glad that we have a bit more time together before the inevitable which may be a day or maybe a week or more. I can't bear the thought of doing this. Here he is last year while he was still my dad's kitty.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear it. I have been through a similar ordeal with my beloved Patches of 18 years. Her lungs were filled with fluid and draining didn't help much. The vet told me that she was expiring and I had to make the hardest decision of my life and put her down. I broke down (2 years ago) but I knew i had done the right thing. She was suffocating or rather drowning and it was a matter of minutes. 2 years of pain had not been easy; last July I went to a local shelter and wanted to pick up another fur ball from a list. The list kitties didn't work out, they bit me hissed at me and just told me off until a pair of soft paws landed on my thigh. Our eyes met, I picked her up, held her close to my chest and she melted! And so did I. My heart is filled with joy again. Here she is :)
Enjoy Mel while you can. Wishing you and him the best :)

Oh that is very sad news, but as long as she is feeling not too bad take some more time. I do know how it feels, my Stapper JR was 14 years when he got FIP and we only had 3 weeks left In which it was still unsure what his problem was and we went in and out to the vet......finally had to put him down :when his lungs did fill up with fluid as well but with FIP it doesn't work for long... still miss my little guy.

It is an awfull feeling, I have been there now 4 times and it is the worst, but somebody here in this thread once said that the years you had together will soften the pain eventually it does.....

Sorry to hear. We lost our little kitten to FIP way back when - she was a little less than a year old. The suddenness of it, and the fact that I didn't have any good photos of her (this was in the early 2000's when it was big news that a cell phone camera broke 1 megapixel) was one of the factors that kick-started me back in to photography.

Bill is my name - I'm the most wanted man on my island, except I'm not on my island, of course. More's the pity.
